Today is World AIDS Day! And Bollywood is not really doing great when it comes to focusing on socially relevant issues. There are indeed a number of Bollywood celebs that are associated with gazillions of NGO's, some helping special children, some for saving the girl child, etc.....But Bollywood, per say, has not really brought out or rather captured the issue of AIDS in India with its lenses. When I think of this genre, there are just 2 movies that come to my mind, Phir Milenge and My Brother Nikhil. Both the movies were undoubtedly excellent in their story lines, direction, cast, and so on. But we have been longing to see something more in this category.
I am glad that Bollywood has captured terrorism very beautifully and on an extensive level. And it is indeed appreciable. But, AIDS or rather HIV is not yet explored to its fullest. However, it is duty of noted film-makers to think and come up something in this genre.
I am sure there are few who have already started thinking but it might not excite them to an extent that masala and romantic movies do. But guys, take a chance....I am sure the society will appreciate the effort.
